What is the Four Corners Transportation Associates?

Four Corners Transportation Associates (FCTA) is a group of concerned citizens who desire to improve conditions in our Community for the benefit of all. It became apparent to us that available transportation for most area citizens are private automobiles. Therefore this group started researching what public transportation may already be in the area and discovered it was rather meager. Therefore, FCTA has engaged with the four counties' Transportation Boards and other agencies which may be of value in our quest to improve local conditions.

Our Mission:
Improve transportation options so "transportation disadvantaged" residents can obtain access to health care, employment, education, shopping, social activities, or other life-sustaining activities in the "Four Corners Area" of North Florida.

Note: The "Four Corners Area" refers to the areas in and around Melrose and Keystone Heights, Florida, where the four counties of Alachua, Bradford, Clay, and Putman come together.

What thoughts have you given to your own situation? It may suprise you, but most people are just one step removed from needing such services personally.

Things to consider:

  • Have you considered your own transportation options which may allow you to age in place?
  • Will aging customers be as likely to visit your business?
  • Are you home bound due to a lack of transportation?
  • Are you currently using an alternative transportation system which one?
  • What concerns do you have?
  • If there was a convenient and affordable van or taxi service, would you use it?
  • Would you like to join our Task Force using State and Federal grants?

The success of our program is dependent on several factors. Of primary importance is active participation by area residents. we need information about specific situations to understand needs and to develop methods of assistance. We are in the process of developing a questionaire which will assist in determining needs for area residents. Take a look at the preliminary questionionaire by clicking here.

Currently, we're holding meetings on the second Tuesday of each month, starting at 1:30 pm at the Melrose Senior Community Center on Bellamy Avenue (SR 26) in downtown Melrose. You are welocme to join us.
